Foosball Table Soccer for All

It should not come to your surprise that foosball or table soccer was conceived by an Englishman. Harold S. Thornton in 1922 came up with the idea after a football match (the North London Spurs), that he wanted to duplicate to play at home. With the help of a book of matches, the basic concept of the foosball table was invented.

The game itself is quite simple, a soccer pitch is duplicated in miniature on the bottom of a table and the players are suspended above the surface on a series of 8 rotating rods. The rod allows the players to move back and forth across the field, and also to kick the ball by swinging the rod. The ball is served into play through a hole in the side wall at mid field. The players then attempt to kick the ball into opposing goals. Each ‘team’ consists of 4 rows of players, a goalie, two defensemen, 5 midfielders and 3 strikers. Only the goalie and defensemen are on adjacent rods. The midfielders and strikers are located between the opposing player’s midfielders and strikers, so they can compete for the ball.

The foosball game can be played by individuals or with four players at one time. With four players, or doubles, one team mate plays the defense and the other plays the offence. The teams them selves can determine the amount of the score or goals to win the game.

Foosball History, Interesting!

Foosball is one of the most interesting for in door fun. It ranks up there with the game of Chess and Billiards, when it comes to comes to the most popular and most played sport in the world. Now, how did Foosball start?

Foosball, which was originally referred to as table soccer is believed to have originated in the land of Germany in the late 1920′s. However, it was also discovered that the French were concocting the exact same game sometime in the early 1930′s. Foosball started as a soccer game played in an old wooden box.

As of now, foosball is popular not only in the west but also with the rest of the world. In the united states alone there are 1.9 million players enjoying the game! The evolution of the game from a indoor game to a professional sport with millions of cash prizes at stake has given its rise in popularity.

If you love the sport of foosball them maybe a little bit of its history will make it even better.

Man Caves

Every guy that I know has or would like to have his own man cave, or rec/bar room, that he and his family and friends can have hours of fun all year long. To create the right room, in the basement or another room in the house, you would need top come up with a theme. It could be a sports theme like one of your favorite teams or collage. Or if you are a biker it could be around a Harley Davidson theme. It is your pick. What you will need is more then a billiard table and a few cue sticks!

If you are going to entertain then you will surly need to create a bar to serve beverages along with a refrigerator to keep them cold. A few bar tables and stools never hurt for atmosphere. If your family is going to enjoy the room, then you will need to have in place, is a foosball or air hockey table or both to keep the young ones happy along with the adults who like to play these games. When it is adult time you may want to add a nice poker table and chairs for a friendly card game and drinks.

If you have the room and want to spend some quality time with your family  then a nice big screen HD tv with a sound system that kicks is the way to go!

These are just a few ideas that you can go by but it is totally up to you on how you want to set up your own rec/bar room.

Foosball and Gents.

I believe that there is no sound like grown men pounding on the steel rods of a Foosball Table, while they spin them as fast as they can while yelling at a plastic soccer ball. You have to love it! When you came to needing a foosball table you have to get a quality built one so that the men can keep on playing the game. One of the most annoying thing with Foosball is when the ball stops for no reason. It just all of a sudden slows down and dies. That not fun!

That’s why we suggest that you play on a table that has metal professional soccer style goals and a tough laminate playing field. Most of all, the table must have inner curved ends which will keep the ball in continuous play. With this feature on your Foosball Table the action surely is never going to stop while being played.

The best part of Foosball is that you can control the little soccer men. You can control how hard or soft that they kick the ball. If you like soccer then chances are that you will love the game of Foosball!

Table for Two or Four

Foosball is becoming one of the most popular game sport. You will find these tables at Frat houses and at the back of sports bars.

There were some 150,000 foosball tables sold in the United States last year, compared with a peak of 250,000 in the late 70′s. The game can be still found in basements, corporate break rooms and student unions. Just alone the Yahoo has 15 foosball tables at its California head quarters.

Also surprising is the surge in growth comes from the worlds sports stage. With the efforts of the International Soccer Federation formed in 2002, foosball is now officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee, and this year the sport held its third World Cup competition in France where 500 players from 40 countries came together of three days of cut throat rod-spinning. Team USA, with “The Kid” clinched their second consecutive championship title.

We can see just how popular foosball is getting here in the US but also around the world. Maybe there may be a World Cup of table soccer!

Foosball The Game

For many people, foosball is a fun and recreational pastime. For others it is a sport played competitively, often for money prizes. Sometimes it is played with strictly defined rules and other times it is played casually with only minimal rules. I have only played foosball for fun with friends and family so I’m not really up on all the technicalities of the game.

Very few people realize that the London inventor who invented foosball did it by playing around with a box of matches. Back in 1923, he was considered a soccer fanatic. He enjoyed the game so much that he felt like there must be some way to play the same game and create the same excitement indoors.
